Basel Zoo in Switzerland

Colorful artwork by Donal Brun featuring an elephant, tiger, flamingo, giraffe and tropical fish. Zoo Basel is a non-profit zoo located in the city of Basel, Switzerland. Its official name is Zoologischer Garten Basel – or in English: Basel Zoological Garden. The people of Basel affectionately call it Zolli. Its main entrance is just outside the city center of Basel from Steinen-Vorstadt and extends down the valley of the Birsig stream to the border of the city of Basel with Binningen, Basel-Country. Basel Zoo is the oldest (1874) and the largest zoo in Switzerland (in number of animals). With more than 1.8 million visitors per year, it is the most visited tourist attraction in Switzerland.
